OVERVIEW

Join an exclusive 3-Day intensive with Eliot Smith Dance (ESD).

As part of our 15th anniversary year, ESD — one of the North East’s leading contemporary dance companies is proud to host a special three-day intensive in our home City of Newcastle upon Tyne.

This intensive offers dancers the opportunity to engage deeply with the distinctive ESD style, rooted in the foundational techniques of Martha Graham and the ESD's dynamic repertory. This year, we are also celebrating 100 Years of Martha Graham, honouring her lasting influence on contemporary dance worldwide.

Led by ESD’s Creative Director, Eliot Smith, alongside Rehearsal Director Yamit Salazar and guest Ballet Artist Angela Reay, the intensive includes:

  • Contemporary class (Graham-based)

  • Ballet class

  • ESD repertory

  • Studio Sharing Performance (on the final day)

  • Cool down

  • Coaching and personalised feedback from Eliot Smith

Beyond technique, participants will take part in discussions, video viewings, and Q&A sessions, offering rare insight into Eliot Smith’s creative process and artistic vision. This intensive is designed not only to develop technical skill, but also to deepen each dancer’s understanding of their role within the evolving landscape of contemporary dance.

Whether you’re new to ESD’s work or already familiar with the company, this anniversary intensive provides a powerful introduction to our movement language and artistic philosophy. No prior experience with ESD repertory is required.
